Two Days to Show Time; Tips on Efficiency; Vote for sofi Gold Awards; Exhibitor News
The Summer Fancy Food Show is two days away. Register by midnight tonight to get the pre-Show attendee discount price of $35. The price goes up to $60 on July 9. Registration continues online, and badges can also be purchased on-site. The Show is Sunday, July 10 - Tuesday, July 12 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Exhibitors are already hard at work setting up their displays, and the education sessions have started for industry newcomers and veterans alike. The Summer Show is shaping up to be a successful event. Exhibit space has been sold out for weeks, and more than 18,000 buyers are expected, ranging from neighborhood and regional specialty stores and eateries to natural food stores to chains such as Whole Foods and Starbucks. This is the largest marketplace devoted to specialty foods and beverages in North America. Among the 180,000 products on display will be plenty of artisanal cheese from Oregon to France, unusual jams from all over the world including chunky papaya from Senegal, and new ideas like bacon croutons from Seattle. Bring business sense to recipe costing with help from a Summer Show seminar, “The Importance of Accurate Recipe Costing and Menu Engineering.” Speaker Mark Kelnhofer of Return on Ingredients (pictured, left) will look at budget-sapping practices, and show how to overcome them. He will share his unique approach to account for accurate costs including food, labor and overhead. The session is Monday, July 11, 8 - 8:45 a.m., before the exhibit halls open. Your vote counts! Retailers and foodservice buyers attending the Summer Show are invited to a private on-site tasting to vote for Winners of the 39th sofi Awards for the outstanding specialty foods and beverages of the year. A national panel of specialty food experts has already selected 125 Finalists across 33 awards categories from a record 2,326 entries. The votes at the Show will determine which great products will take home the coveted sofi Gold. Voting is Sunday, July 10 and Monday, July 11 until 12:30 p.m., Street Level: Room 147 B. Winners will be announced Monday evening at a red-carpet ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Cat Cora. Tickets for the ceremony can be purchased at the Show or online.
EXHIBITOR NEWS...Hancock Gourmet Lobster Co. is launching new package sizes for its Port Clyde Lobster Mac & Cheese, Linekin Bay Lobster Corn Chowder and York Harbor Lobster Risotto. EXHIBITOR NEWS...Nielsen-Massey Vanillas is rolling out a new logo and updated labels. The update, the first since 2003, is designed to modernize the brand image and give meaning to the design seal, which will continue to be a central element, says Matt Nielsen, chief operating officer.
