Summer Fancy Food Show: Day 1

The 2011 Summer Fancy Food Show opened today in Washington, D.C.'s Walter E. Washington Convention Center with more than 180,000 specialty foods and beverages on display from companies around the world.

Flavors and ingredients such as apple, sesame and pistachio are among some of the emerging trends found during Day 1 of the Show. In addition, creative beverages--especially waters and teas--and desserts made a strong showing. Here are some innovative and
on-trend products found by the
editors of Specialty Food Magazine:

1. Gize Gold-Filtered Water from Canada. A mineral water sourced in Spa Springs, Nova Scotia, in the extreme east of Canada. Available in Still, Sparkling and four flavors: Lemon-Elderflower, Raspberry-Ginseng; Pear-Vinegar and Pineapple-Coconut. gize.com

4. Tea Forte Swiss Apple Red Tea for Skin Support: part of the company's new line of Skin-Smart™ Teas, that promote beauty from within. teaforte.com  

5. Republic of Tea Almond Coconut Macaroon Tea: a new addition to the company's line of drinkable dessert flavors. republicoftea.com   

6. Chozen All Natural Ice Cream in Apples and Honey: this ice cream line is based on traditional Jewish treats. Other flavors include Chocolate Gelt and Matzoh Crunch. chozen.com  

7. Harney and Sons Royal Wedding Tea: commissioned by the Historic Royal Palaces organization, this new tea contains Chinese mutan white tea buds, with pink rosebuds and petals. harney.com  

8. Kaurina's Kulfi Ice Cream in Pistachio Almond: Kulfi is a traditional frozen dessert from India and Pakistan that is made of cooked milk. It is all natural and contains no eggs, preservatives or artificial stabilizers. kaurinas.com
