331 Cortland Marketplace

Collective Retailing for Seven Businesses in Bernal Heights
331 Cortland St.
Hours: Daily, 10 a.m.–7 p.m. (each kiosk keeps its own hours)
Collective retailing is mostly seen in the antiques world, but a small group of seven like-minded vendors joined together to open 331 Cortland Marketplace in Bernal Heights last summer. The marketplace was created by longtime San Francisco small-property owner and manager Debra Resnik as a space where entrepreneurs can work together toward success. Here you’ll find Spice Hound (spice purveyor), El Porteño (empanadas from Argentina, which also has a tiny stall in the Ferry Building), ICHI Lucky Cat Sushi (sushi and sides), Paulie’s Pickling (all things pickled), Wholesome Bakery (baked goods), Dezys Drinks (teas, juices and kombuchas) and Bernal Cutlery (knives and sharpening). Housed in stalls within this casual space, these neighbors have created a distinct community. The building is solar heated and each vendor is committed to using compostable materials. —Laiko Bahrs
