Yes, there is a baker named Baker and a chef named Banker and together they are Baker & Banker. In 2009, the couple opened an eponymous restaurant in the former Quince location in Pacific Heights where they feature farm-to-table New American cuisine. The owners recently opened an adjacent bakery as a charming offshoot. Lori Baker’s menu is filled with comforting goodies: loaves of Honey Whole Wheat, Buttermilk Dill, Sweet Potato, Poppyseed Challah and Brioche breads, plus the store’s best-selling scones studded with dried fruit and topped with a fruit-sweetened glaze. On the sweet side, there’s the justly famous XXX Triple Chocolate Layer Cake, as well as gooey sticky buns, cupcakes and donuts (Spiced Ricotta filled with Pluot Jam). If you are not careful, you’ll spend heavily on a box full of Baker’s goodies. —Laiko Bahrs
