The cupcake craze continues in the Bay Area albeit in a bite-size way at Mission Minis. Brandon Arnovick, a Mission neighborhood resident and music producer, founded the bake shop as a way to engage with his neighborhood and offer affordable organic and handmade treats made on-site. (During off-hours, the kitchen is used by micro-business Bike Basket Pies.) His colorful shop in the food-crazed Mission neighborhood features a tasty selection of two-bite cakes with Mexican flavor profiles, including best-sellers Aztec Chocolate (Mexican cinnamon and chocolate) and Horchata (sweetened rice milk and cinnamon), as well as Pink Lemonade (from local Meyer lemons).

After school, kids and parents alike line up for a sweet treat, and at only $1 each, they make a perfectly affordable luxury. If you can’t make it to the store, Philz Coffee and Bay Area Whole Foods Markets are a few of the places where you can also find Mission Minis. —Laiko Bahrs
