Artisan ice cream in San Francisco has been a local obsession since Bi-Rite Creamery opened in 2007 and Humphry Slocombe in 2009. This summer, Mr. & Mrs. Miscellaneous ice cream parlor opened in the Dogpatch neighborhood, south of AT&T Park on the Third Street rail line. The pair of pastry chefs (the mister and missus) are Ian Flores and Annabelle Topacio, two restaurant veterans who have worked for Postrio in San Francisco and Spago and CUT in Las Vegas. The couple opened their ice creamery as a way to use everything they know about pastry, desserts and breadmaking, and to play with flavor combinations. They also wholesale to a small number of local restaurants including SPQR.

The menu offers organic ice creams and sorbets made in-house and perched on homemade cones. Tasty flavors include the best-selling Candied Violette, Ballpark (Anchor Steam porter ice cream with chocolate-covered pretzels and peanuts) and Nougat Glace (nougat, apricots and pistachio). If a float is your desire, then the Blackberry Cream is a must, plus there are cookies, caramels, toppings and brittles, all lined up on the counter. —Laiko Bahrs
