Cowgirls Peggy Smith and Sue Conley ride again in their newest venture, Sidekick, a cheese and dairy bar. These cheesemakers/chefs/retailers launched in September next door to their retail store in the former Lulu Petite stall at the Ferry Building. The new venture offers a delectable cheese-focused menu including cottage cheese dumplings afloat in a Grana Padano cheese broth; raclette, featuring the new Wagon Wheel cheese from Cowgirl Creamery melted on toast with housemade pickles; grilled cheese on Acme bread; an artisan cheese plate; fresh mozzarella salad bar; and Earl Grey tea and chocolate mousse panna cotta.

Sidekick contains what is reported to be the U.S.’s only milk bar, modeled after one that Smith and Conley saw at a cheese show in Paris last winter. Baristas serve glasses of organic, locally sourced milk from Strauss Family Creamery. Milk is served cold or steamed and with or without flavorings that include raspberry, Recchiuti chocolate, spices, caramel or coffee made from Equator beans that have been cold-steeped for 18 hours. —Laiko Bahrs
