Specialty Food Association Content Team Named Finalist for Two Neal Awards
NEW YORK (Feb. 24, 2016) – The Specialty Food Association’s content team behind Specialty Food News and Specialty Food Magazine has been named a finalist for two 2016 Jesse H. Neal Awards.
Specialty Food News is a finalist for “Best News Coverage” for its series on the ice-cream recall at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream in Ohio due to the discovery of listeria contamination. The series included a follow-up video interview at the Summer Fancy Food Show with company founder Jeni Britton Bauer.
Specialty Food Magazine is a finalist for “Best Single Article” for the “The Changing Face of Convenience,” published in the Summer 2016 issue. The article looks at how convenience stores are upgrading their food offerings to appeal to today’s consumers, who are demanding better food everywhere they shop.
The Neal Awards, presented by the Software & Information Industry Association (formerly American Business Media association), were established in 1955 to recognize editorial excellence in business journalism. Specialty Food Magazine won a Neal Award in 2015, and was shortlisted for two more. This is Specialty Food News’ first nomination. The winners will be announced April 1 in New York.
“One of our goals is to give insight into the challenging business of specialty food,” says Denise Purcell, editor of both publications, and head of content for the Specialty Food Association. “The news coverage of the ice-cream recall showed how one company successfully handled a potentially life-threatening problem.”
Specialty Food Magazine and Specialty Food News are published by the Specialty Food Association, an internationally recognized member-based organization fostering and supporting small and medium-size businesses in the $109 billion specialty food industry.
