Instacart has announced an initiative designed to improve the health and wellbeing of its users called Instacart Health. The strategy is launched in coordination with the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.
Instacart Health is built on strategic partnerships, research, and policy and advocacy commitments to increase nutrition security and enable users to make healthy choices, according to the company.
Fresh Funds, which is designed to help organizations, like nonprofits or businesses, give people funds to buy food from grocery retailers via on the app, is among Instacart's new offerings. The idea is for people to gain access to healthy foods that may otherwise be cost-prohibitive.
Care Carts is also available. It gives healthcare providers and caregivers the ability to order groceries on behalf of patients or interested parties.
Along with a promise to expand its library of healthy recipes in partnership with Heart Magazine, the company is also adding “Health Tags” to its products, which allows users to easily shop for products with “low-salt” or those that are “gluten-free,” for instance.
The company is also working with the USDA to expand SNAP EBT payment access to Instacart grocery partners in all 50 states by 2030.
“Instacart has become a staple in millions of households, which puts us at the heart of the relationship that people have with food, and therefore, their health. We have a responsibility to use the power of our platform, products, and partnerships to expand access to nutritious food and improve health outcomes,” said Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart, in a statement.
