Retailers Tout Holiday Deals, Savings

Various retailers have begun advertising seasonal offerings and savings options in advance of Black Friday and the winter holiday rush. Aldi, Dollar General, BJ’s, FreshDirect, and Target have joined in the season’s merriment.

Aldi announced Thursday a curated list of 350 items that for holiday hosting, with the majority priced below $10.

“The holidays should be spent with friends and family, not scouring grocery shelves for better prices,” said Joan Kavanaugh, VP of national buying, in a statement. “Aldi is the destination for holiday entertaining–shoppers can relax this season knowing our stores are serving up a wide selection of premium products, always at low prices.”

The lineup includes savings on cheese, charcuterie, meat and seafood, holiday snacks, and wine.

Dollar General launched Thursday added savings on daily necessities with promotions planned to run throughout the season. The discount retailer shared that the goal of the program is to help customers stretch their food dollars.

“Decked Out in Deals is our way of offering added savings this holiday season that extend beyond our everyday values,” said Emily Taylor, Dollar General’s EVP and chief merchandising officer, in a statement. “In addition to significant discounts and weekly three-day DG Deal Days sales events on both seasonal and everyday items, the DG app provides added perks including digital coupons, DG Cash Back, personalized offers, and early access to new products and deals to help shoppers save even more on their purchases, especially as we approach the holidays.”

The weekly DG Deal Days offer buy one, get one free promotions for select items, as well as between 20 to 50 percent off promotional products.

FreshDirect has given a peek into its seasonal offerings, which will be available in November. Some items include:

• Vergani’s Pistachio Panettone, an Italian-imported desert

• The Francois Doucet Advent Calendar, a Christmas calendar with confectionary treats

• Lambertz Contrella Gingerbread Cookies, a glazed, chocolate-dipped cookie

• The Dresden Stollen, a Christmas cake

• Olio Novello, a specialty olive oil

The online grocer also advertised some items for stocking stuffers, and gift ideas for home chefs, including kits to make fresh Italian cheeses, Jelly Doughnuts, sourdough bread, and everything bagels.

BJ’s and Target’s promotions are geared towards early Black Friday savings. BJ’s Black FriYAY event runs until November 16 and provides a host of discounts on items across the store. Similarly, Target’s early Black Friday event runs from October 29 to November 4 and offers savings on myriad items.
