James “Jungle Jim” Bonaminio

James “Jungle Jim” Bonaminio is the founder and owner of Jungle Jim’s International Market, one of the most distinctive and celebrated food retail destinations in the United States. His journey began in 1971, when, as a college student, he sold fruits and vegetables from the back of a pickup truck on vacant lots in Hamilton and Fairfield, Ohio—building a loyal following through personality, value, and sheer imagination. 

In 1974, Jim purchased land in Fairfield, and by 1975, the installation of a signature waterfall signaled the birth of Jungle Jim’s as a retail experience unlike any other. Today, the business spans more than 300,000 square feet across two Ohio locations, offering over 180,000 products from around the world and drawing visitors from across the country and beyond. 

Part grocer, part entertainer, Jim transformed shopping into an adventure—earning national media recognition and dozens of industry honors along the way. Deeply committed to community, he has sponsored hundreds of local sports teams and supported numerous nonprofits. What began as a produce stand has become a global food phenomenon, fueled by curiosity, generosity, and relentless creativity.
