Thrive Market Launches Curated Gift Boxes

Specialty Food Association

Online retailer Thrive Market has launched a line of curated gift boxes for the first time, each of which incorporates some specialty food items.

Priced at $55-$70, the gift boxes provide Thrive Market’s 1.2 million members with quick solutions for “important moments and seasonal events,” the company said.

Thrive Market, which charges a membership fee to gain access to a selection of healthy, organic, and sustainable brands at reduced prices, said the new line has launched with five gift boxes: a New Family Gift Box, a Celebration Gift Box, a Welcome Home Gift Box, a Member Favorites Gift Box, and a Get Well Soon Gift Box. A Fall Favorites Gift Box is expected to follow soon, a spokesperson for the online retailer told SFA News Daily.

About 85 percent of Thrive Market members surveyed said they were interested in buying gifts through Thrive Market or having an interest in gift boxes, the spokesperson said.

Thrive is promoting the gift boxes on its website and via email, text, in-app communications, social media, influencer marketing, and other communication channels.

Each box contains about seven or eight items, many of which are Thrive Market’s own brand private label specialty foods. The Member Favorites Gift Box, for example, offers eight products from the Thrive Market brand, including Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Aminos, Organic Balsamic Vinegar, Organic & Fair Trade Breakfast Blend Ground Coffee, Organic Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup, Medjool Dates, Organic Overnight Oats (Double Chocolate Berry), and Avocado Oil Potato Chips (Himalayan Salt).

Other specialty food brands that are included in other gift boxes include Partake Soft Baked Cookies (Chocolate Chip) and SmartSweets Sweet Fish in the Celebration Gift Box. That box also features several other Thrive Market food products and some nonfoods items, including a Pure Plant Home Coconut Wax Candle (Lavender) and an Alaffia Pure Fair Trade Shea Butter (Unscented).

The Welcome Home Gift Box, which the website describes as a “ready-to-ship gift for a housewarming party, post-visit thanks, or a way to show you care,” also includes several Thrive Market brand food products and some cleaning products, including Rosey All Purpose Cleaner; Seventh Generation Dish Soap, and Dr Bronner's Liquid Pump Soap (Peppermint).

The Get Well Soon and New Family Gift Boxes mostly feature nonfood health items, but each also includes a specialty tea: Thrive Market Organic Throat Soothing Tea and Earth Mama Organics Milkmaid Tea, respectively.

Thrive Market’s introduction of gift boxes comes as holiday spending via ecommerce channels is expected to increase between 12.8 percent and 14.3 percent this year, according to Deloitte’s annual forecast. Overall spending is expected to increase between 4 percent and 6 percent, which is down from a 15.1 percent increase last year.

“As inflation weighs on consumer demand, we can expect consumers to continue to shift how they spend their holiday budget this upcoming season,” said Nick Handrinos, vice chair, Deloitte LLP, and U.S. retail, wholesale and distribution and consumer products leader, in a statement. “Retail sales are set to increase as a result of higher prices, and this dynamic has the potential to further drive e-commerce sales as consumers look for online deals to maximize their spending. Retailers across channels who remain aligned with consumer demand and offer convenient and affordable options can be well positioned for success this season.”
