A BakedBySusan� Company Wins a 2022 "New Product Award", for its BakeThisYourself� Pie Kit

Croton-on-Hudson, NY (May 17, 2022)™, a Baked By Susan Company, Westchester County, NY has won a prestigious international Sofi New Product award this year for the 50th Annual Sofi™ Awards.  This award recognizes the best of the best in the specialty food industry.  The Sofi Awards are presented after being judged at the Food Innovation Center at Rutgers University (FIC), where FIC experts evaluated nearly 2,000 entries in 47 product categories.  All products are anonymous to judges who evaluate products on flavor, appearance, texture, aroma, ingredient quality and innovation.  The product is now in the running for the Sofi “New Product of the Year” Award which will be announced and awarded on Sunday, June 12th, at the 2022 Summer Fancy Food Show, the largest B2B-only specialty food and beverage show in the U.S.  

The BakeThisYourself™Pie Kit, was entered into the BAKING MIXES/PASTRY DOUGHS, AND FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENTS' Category where it won the New Product Award. 

“We are honored that our BakeThisYourself-Pie Kit has won,” said Susan O’Keefe, co-owner of Baked by Susan and BakeThisYourself.  “As anyone in the industry will tell you, winning this award is one of the ultimate stamps of approval within the industry, and we are grateful and honored.  The Pandemic brought a lot of devastation to many in the world, and this glimmer of positiveness was so appreciated during these difficult times.   We moved into a new location with triple the retail space and almost double our previous rent.  We had a Grand Opening two weeks prior to the national shut down in March 2020 when Covid first hit the world.  Like many businesses at the time, we had to look for alternative ideas and ways of doing business from pre-pandemic times.  The BakeThisYourself Pie Kit is one of several ideas we came up with during this time and is an extension of our original idea.”  O’Keefe is referring to another idea they also started during those early pandemic times called  “This company was created from the necessity to supply a high quality, all-butter crust dough for their retail location at Baked By Susan, Croton on Hudson, for their line of dough products and shortly thereafter,  for the BakeThisYourself Pie Kits.  In those early months of the shutdown, it was my husband, Chris, our three boys, and me working at the Bakery for survival.  Everyone was laid off in those early months.  With just the five of us, we knew we could not keep up with the volume of dough needed to supply our needs.  So, my husband began to search the marketplace to find a product that used our simple four ingredients.   With no luck in finding any product that used only butter in their crust, he found a local company willing to work with us to fill this void.  We co-created a method to mass produce our All-Butter Crust Dough that did not stray from our original and old fashioned recipe of using ONLY King Arthur flour, butter, water and salt!   This development of having dough supplied at high volumes at close to the same cost as if we were to produce it ourselves, has fundamentally changed the way our bakery can do business.  We now have our employees focus on experimenting with filling the ABC-Dough with savory and sweet products rather than having the endless task of making dough.   We are confident that it will also do the same for others,” says O’Keefe.
