BARRE, VT – Butterfly Bakery of Vermont has launched Pepper Patrons, a new community initiative that invites hot sauce fans behind the scenes of the annual pepper harvest that supplies the company's award-winning hot sauces.
Each year, Butterfly Bakery purchases all of their peppers directly from small farms across Vermont, creating a direct connection between the farmers who grow the peppers and the customers who love their hot sauces. Through Pepper Patrons, participants receive exclusive products, behind-the-scenes access, special events, and opportunities to help shape future sauces.
“In very practical terms, Pepper Patrons are helping turn fields full of peppers into bottles of hot sauce,” said founder Claire Georges. “But they’re also helping keep a local food chain working: small farms growing incredible peppers, our team turning them into sauce in Barre, and customers choosing to keep that value close to home.”
For the farms that grow those peppers, the relationships provide stability and predictability.
“Butterfly Bakery gives us a market we don’t have to invent or manage every single day,” said Geoff Kleis of Familia Farm in West Pawlet, Vermont. “Our days are more predictable and our mission is clearer. I can focus on farming instead of marketing.”
Valerie Woodhouse and Eli Hersh of Honey Field Farm in Norwich, Vermont, echoed that sentiment, saying, “We cannot overstate how beneficial and influential it has been working with Butterfly Bakery and just how impactful our relationship has been on the progress of our farm.”
Butterfly Bakery of Vermont, based in Barre, has built a national reputation for its farm-to-fork hot sauces, including four appearances on Hot Ones and named “the best hot sauces in the country” in Food & Wine. The company hopes Pepper Patrons will give people a deeper connection to the farms, harvest, and local food system behind every bottle.
