Olio Roi among the first Ligurian producers to bring PGI Taggiasca Olives to market

After more than twenty years of anticipation, discussion and collective effort, Oliva Taggiasca della Liguria PGI has finally become a reality.

BADALUCCO, ITALY – February 2026

Among the first producers to introduce the certified product to the market is Olio Roi, the historic company based in Badalucco that has long been dedicated to promoting and preserving the Taggiasca olive cultivar.

Olio Roi officially presents its Oliva Taggiasca della Liguria PGI, a certification that guarantees traceability, geographical origin and official controls throughout the entire supply chain.

The culmination of a twenty-year journey

The recognition of Oliva Taggiasca della Liguria as a Protected Geographical Indication represents the culmination of a process that began more than two decades ago, driven by the need to protect one of the Mediterranean’s most distinctive and culturally significant olive cultivars.

The PGI certification:

  • guarantees that the olives genuinely originate from Liguria;

  • ensures officially certified controls and traceability;

  • protects producers and consumers against imitations and the improper use of the name “Taggiasca”.

Among the first to reach the market

Olio Roi is among the very first companies in Liguria to have completed the certification process and brought its Taggiasca olives to market bearing the official PGI seal.

This decision is fully consistent with the company’s history. Founded in 1887, Olio Roi has always been committed to promoting the Taggiasca cultivar, both in the production of extra virgin olive oil and as a table olive.

“For us, this is more than a certification. It is a responsibility towards our land, our olive groves and everyone who chooses the authentic quality of Liguria.”

Identity, territory and the future

Taggiasca is more than an olive. It embodies a landscape, an agricultural culture and the delicate balance between the Mediterranean Sea and the Ligurian mountains.

By introducing its PGI Taggiasca Olives to the market, Olio Roi takes another important step in protecting and promoting a product that represents a unique part of Liguria’s agricultural and cultural heritage.

Availability in the United States

The new PGI Taggiasca Olives will soon be available throughout the United States through Olio ROI’s distribution network, selected retail and foodservice partners, and the company’s newly established American subsidiary, ROI USA Inc.
