Piko Provisions Launches Banana Bites: A Snack Rooted in Hawaiʻi's Foodways

HONOLULU, HI — June 1, 2026 — Piko Provisions, a Hawaiʻi-based food enterprise nourishing the next generation through locally-grown ingredients, today announced the launch of Banana Bites — a freeze-dried finger food crafted entirely from Hawaiʻi-grown bananas. The launch extends Piko's product line from purées into self-feeding snacks and marks another step in the company's work to build a place-based food system in the islands.

Banana Bites are sourced directly from Hawaiʻi farmers and gently freeze-dried to preserve nutrition and flavor — with no added sugar, preservatives, or imported fillers, offering families a clean alternative to the imported snacks that dominate Hawaiʻi's grocery shelves.

"Every pouch of Banana Bites is a small act of reciprocity — a farmer resourced for their work, a family nourished by food grown in their own place, and another thread woven into a food system that can actually sustain us," said Ethan West, CEO of Piko Provisions. "We import roughly 85% of what we eat in Hawaiʻi. Shifting that is a generational responsibility."

The launch was made possible in part by equipment acquired with funds from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity through the federally-funded Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Program. The expanded capacity is enabling Piko to direct over $1 million toward Hawaiʻi farmers, cooperatives, and food hubs over the next three years; strengthen livelihoods for hundreds of family farmers statewide; and expand access to locally-grown food in underserved communities. Piko products are WIC-authorized and participate in the DA BUX Double Up Food Bucks SNAP incentive program.

Since 2020, Piko has sourced over 175,000 pounds of local produce — including more than 52,000 pounds in the first five months of 2026 alone — paying well above prevailing market rates for Hawaiʻi-grown ingredients rooted in Indigenous foodways, including bananas, ʻulu (breadfruit), kalo (taro), and ʻuala (sweet potato). The product line has delivered nearly half a million meals across Hawaiʻi.

Banana Bites are available at pikoprovisions.com, with a phased retail rollout to follow.

This product was produced with funds from the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Agriculture and Biosecurity through the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) Program, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Marketing Service.
