Lititz, PA (June 15, 2026) — Sauder’s Eggs, a family-owned Pennsylvania company and leading supplier of farm-fresh eggs across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, and Midwest, has announced two significant animal welfare commitments: the adoption of in-ovo sexing technology and the transition to non-debeaking practices.
By August 2026, these initiatives will be implemented across Sauder's Eggs branded Free Range, Free Range Organic, Pasture Raised and Pasture Raised Organic Large and Extra Large egg products. These initiatives reflect Sauder's ongoing commitment to responsible farming, continuous improvement, and the well-being of the hens that produce its eggs. Together, the initiatives address animal welfare at both the beginning of the production cycle and throughout a hen's life.
Under the non-debeaking initiative, all Sauder’s branded eggs will be from flocks raised without routine debeaking. Non-debeaking allows hens to retain their natural beaks and engage in natural behaviors while supporting flock health and welfare through strong management practices. The approach can contribute to improved physical and social well-being, reduced stress and healthier flock dynamics while maintaining high standards of animal care.
In-ovo sexing technology represents one of the most significant animal welfare advancements in modern egg production. Sauder’s Eggs has committed to incorporating the technology into its premium egg offerings by August 2026. The technology determines the sex of a chicken embryo during incubation before hatch, helping eliminate the need for male chick culling: Male eggs are removed and destroyed during the incubation process before they can feel pain.

"At Sauder's Eggs, animal welfare has always been central to how we do business," said Mark Sauder, President and CEO of Sauder's Eggs. "Animal welfare is a continuous process of improvement. These commitments represent meaningful steps in our ongoing efforts to support the well-being of our hens while delivering the quality products our customers expect. By advancing non-debeaking practices and investing in innovations such as in-ovo sexing, we're helping build a more responsible and sustainable future for egg production."
The company's animal welfare efforts build on its longstanding commitment to responsible farming practices and partnerships with family farms that share its values of quality, integrity, and stewardship.
Sauder's Eggs will highlight these and other company initiatives during the Summer Fancy Food Show at Booth 4102.
