What has become a full decade of sourcing spices began in 2016, when co-founder Ethan Frisch packed Afghan cumin into his duffel bag and shared it with chef friends in New York City.
Ten years later, Frisch and co-founder Ori Zohar lead a fast-growing social enterprise that’s shown how the best spices come from strong relationships with expert farmers, honey harvesters and wild cumin foragers. To date, Burlap & Barrel has shipped more than 4.2 million jars of spices to restaurant chefs and home cooks, with over $7 million in payments sent to farmers in more than 30 countries.
