Amazon and most of its workers in Spain agreed today to avoid planned one-hour strikes per shift during Cyber Monday, one of the company’s busiest shopping days, reports Reuters.
Roughly 20,000 warehouse and delivery workers at the online retailer’s Spanish unit are demanding better pay and working conditions, which Amazon sought to ameliorate. Only 5,000 Amazon delivery workers will continue with the protest after indicating that Amazon’s proposal for better pay conditions did not suffice, said Douglas Harper, the leader of CCOO, a local union.
"The vast majority of our teams will continue to work as normal and there will be no impact on our operations for our customers," Amazon said in a statement. "We are proud of the wages, benefits, and safer working conditions that will be provided to our employees in Spain.”
The union noted that it will continue negotiations to improve pay and conditions for the location. Full Story (Subscription Required)
