Bashas' Announces Doughnut Flavor Contest Winners

Bashas' Donut Contest

In anticipation of National Doughnut Day on Friday, supermarket chain Bashas’ held its ninth-annual Donut Flavor Craze contest wherein customers and community members submitted flavor ideas for the grocer’s bakery cases.

A 17-year-old from Gilbert, Arizona won in the youth category for “Pot of Honey,” inspired by Winnie-the-Pooh. This doughnut has crumbled Nilla wafers and a drizzle of honey on top, with two Nilla cookies placed on top of the doughnut for ears.

In the adult category, Brian Vehon from Mesa, Arizona won for his “What’s Up, Doc?” doughnut inspired by Bugs Bunny. This doughnut features a light cream cheese frosting with carrot cake crumbles on top.

Submissions were inspired by pop culture including Taylor Swift, Prince, Jimmy Buffett, Pac-Man, and Star Wars. A panel of local judges helped Bashas’ select the winning flavors.

The winning doughnut flavors will be available for purchase in Bashas’ bakery cases across the state starting Friday. When customers purchase a dozen doughnuts at Bashas’ this Friday, they will receive an additional six doughnuts for free. Bashas’ will also donate 10 percent of its doughnut sales on Friday, June 7, 2024 to The Salvation Army, which established National Donut Day in June 1938 to honor volunteers who served the sweet treats to soldiers on the frontlines.
