Blue Apron Commits to Sustainability

Specialty Food Association

Blue Apron has joined the United Nations Global Compact, which has more than 16,000 participants from over 160 counties.

As a member, the company will work to drive positive outcomes for 17 sustainable development goals. Of those, Blue Apron indicated it will pay special attention to no poverty, zero hunger, and good health and well-being-related goals. These principles directly align with the company’s vision which began in 2012 called “Better Living Through Better Food,” which prioritizes high-quality ingredients to drive individual success.

“We are a carbon-neutral meal-kit company that is focused on bringing incredible recipes to our customers while promoting planetary and dietary wellness for everyone,” said Linda Findley, Blue Apron’s president and CEO, in a statement. “We are proud to join UNGC as we believe it will allow us to glean insightful best practices while continuing to hold ourselves accountable for our progress.”

In addition to the commitment, Chef John Adler, the company’s VP of culinary, has joined the UN’s Chef Manifesto, a community intended to help deliver good food to everyone.

“Since our founding, we’ve focused on sourcing responsibly, supporting regenerative agriculture and fishing practices, reducing food waste throughout the supply chain, and, when possible, donating surplus food to food banks in the communities where we operate,” said Adler in a statement. “By joining the Chef Manifesto, we look forward to collaborating with chefs and thought leaders in the culinary world to further our efforts, share our approaches, and learn from others who have done remarkable work in support of this goal.”
