Dollar Tree Pauses Egg Sales

Dollar Tree confirmed on Tuesday that it has stopped selling eggs in its stores, reports Reuters. The item has increased in price by roughly 60 percent during the fall of last year.

A spokesperson for the retailer said it will likely not bring eggs back until later this fall.

In January, egg prices hit nearly $5 per dozen on average, mostly due to a global outbreak of avian flu that has plagued the country for over a year. Among the birds affected, tens of millions of egg-laying hens have been culled in an effort to mitigate its spread.

Recent consumer pricing data released by the government on Tuesday show egg prices fell by 6.7 percent in February. Full Story
