About a quarter of online restaurant orders placed in 2020 were for delivery, according to Paytronix’s Order and Delivery Report 2021, reports Restaurant Dive. The research found that restaurants that used their own couriers reported about 44 percent of orders were for delivery, while operators that exclusively used third-party delivery platforms only had about 12 percent of orders placed for delivery.

In addition, delivery customers spent 21 percent more at restaurants with self-delivery than takeout customers on average, except for spring of 2020, when takeout orders surged as the pandemic begun.

More people were also willing to try online ordering in 2020 and 65 percent of digital restaurant orders come from first-time guests during the pandemic, according to Paytronix. Digital orders represent nearly a third of all restaurant orders, compared to 10 percent of all restaurant orders pre-pandemic. Full Story
