Retailers, Brands Celebrate Pi Day

Specialty Food Association

Today, March 14, marks National Pi Day, a celebration of the mathematical constant pi, which shares its first three numbers with the date. Retailers across the country are celebrating the day by offering discounts and amplifying sweet and savory pies and pizzas.

“It’s a fun play on words and a great excuse to rack up sales,” finance and budgeting expert Peter Hoopis told Nasdaq News.

It reports that:

• Whole Foods is operating a $2.99 slice of pizza deal, as well as a $3.14 off apple and cherry pies.

• 7-Eleven is offering a $3.14 large pizza.

• Magnolia Bakery is applying a $3.14 discount to its Chocolate Hazelnut Hand Pie.

• BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse is offering half off the purchase of a pizza.

• Boston Market is giving a free chicken pot pie with the purchase of any pot pie and drink order.

FreshDirect is also taking part in the day. The retailer is offering a two-for $25 deal on its private-label apple pie and Peach Blueberry Crumb Pie. FreshDirect is also amplifying savory pies from Noble Pies, including the brand’s Buffalo Chicken Pie and Meatball Pie. Full Story
