Queso Fresco and Cojija cheese

Recent concerns of a listeria monocytogenes outbreak have caused brands to recall their salad and cheese products along with various products made with affected ingredients, according to the FDA.

Queso Fresco and Cojija cheese and products made with or alongside recalled dairy products were sold under brands including Bright Farms, Campesino, Casa Cardenas, Dole, Don Francisco, Don Pancho, Dos Ranchitos, El Huache, Food City, Fresh Express, H-E-B, La Ordena, Marketside, President’s Choice, Ready Pac Bistro, Rio Grande, Rizo Bros, Rojos, San Carlos, Santa Maria, Tio Francisco, Trader Joe’s, and 365 Whole Foods Market.

The FDA added that taco kits sold through Albertsons Cos. banner stores are being recalled due to possible contamination. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service also issued a public health alert for Amazon Kitchen’s Chicken Chile Verde burrito with rice, black beans & Monterey Jack, because they contain recalled dairy products.

The affected products were made with, containing, or prepared alongside recalled dairy products from Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. More information regarding affected products can be found here.

Listeria infection symptoms can begin anywhere between two and ten weeks after exposure to the bacteria, according to the FDA. The government agency recommends checking refrigerators and freezers for affected products and seeking care from a doctor if exposure is suspected.

According to the FDA, the outbreak is responsible for 26 total illnesses, 23 of which resulted in hospitalizations, and two of which resulted in death.
