Southeastern Grocers, the parent of Fresco y Más, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie, is working with the SEG Gives Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the company, to donate over 820,000 meals to local Feeding America food banks during Hunger Action Month, which takes place throughout September.

“As a grocer, we believe it is our responsibility to help families put food on the table, and we are steadfastly committed to supporting and nourishing our local communities, especially when they need us most, said chief people officer for Southeastern Grocers, Raymond Rhee, in a statement. “Through our powerful partnership with Feeding America and its network of local food banks, we can touch the lives of thousands of families, children and individuals facing food insecurity as we take action in the fight against hunger this Hunger Action Month and beyond.”

Throughout the month, the company has partnered with local food banks in the Feeding America network to host seven mobile food pantry events throughout Florida, Alabama, and Louisiana. Both the grocer and its foundation will provide $70,000 to seven Feeding America network food banks.

“As millions of families struggle to put food on the table every day, we must take action and support our communities now more than ever. We are tremendously grateful to our long-standing partner, Southeastern Grocers, for their ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and creating a brighter future for our neighbors in need,” said Lauren Biedron, the VP of corporate partnerships at Feeding America, in a statement. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and working together to provide nourishing meals this Hunger Action Month.”

The grocer’s move to continue to strengthen its partnership with the nonprofit is consistent with its hunger relief goals. Last year, the company donated over 18.6 million meals to help alleviate hunger in the Southeastern U.S.
