Would Warning Labels on Food Lead to Healthier Eating?

The Food and Drug Administration is considering mandating front-of-pack labels that would flag things like high levels of salt, sugar, or saturated fats, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The agency hopes that clearer food labeling could help Americans make healthier choices as it tackles the rise of diet-related health problems such as Type 2 diabetes. FDA intends to propose a rule on the labels this summer.

One idea FDA has tested uses red, yellow, and green to convey whether products are high, medium, or low in added sugar, sodium, and saturated fat. Other potential labels would state how much of those substances a product contains per serving. Full Story (Subscription Required)
