Dollar Tree has partnered with DSD Renewables to develop seven community solar power plants at select New York Dollar Tree and Family Dollar locations, according to DSD Renewables. The programs will help the discount retailer meet its operational energy demands while facilitating its sustainability goals.
“Community solar is a unique and emerging energy solution for many of our facilities. Serving as an anchor subscriber will power our facilities with renewable energy and help us toward our future Net Zero commitment,” said Jennifer Silberman, chief sustainability officer at Dollar Tree, in a statement. “Simultaneously, it allows us to deliver real benefits to the communities we serve, increasing access to clean, affordable energy for residents and local businesses.”
The projects will generate an estimated 55.77 GWh of clean energy. Of this, 16.67 MW will be routed to DollarTree, allowing the retailer to offset 29 percent of its energy needs across 184 stores.
The solar plants will be located in the following New York towns and cities: East Syracuse, Cortland, Remsen, Medina, Silver Creek, and Brier Hill. Two of the projects are under asset operation, and the remaining five under construction are expected to be operational in stages this fall.
DSD Renewables will develop the projects with Dollar Tree serving as an anchor tenant.
