Meijer Seeks Midwest Makers

Specialty Food Association

Meijer has launched an initiative to showcase Midwestern chefs and artisans in its Frederik’s by Meijer private label line of premium foods. Makers can submit their products for consideration by October 21.

The line was introduced in October 2021 to reflect the high standards and vision of the retailer’s cofounder and namesake of the line, Fred Meijer, according to the company. The line’s extension will include a “Midwest Made” logo on the packaging.

"Frederik's makes high quality, innovative and unique foods accessible to our customers for those moments when they're looking to make dining memorable," said Peter Whitsett, Meijer EVP of merchandising and marketing, in a statement. "We're excited to use Frederik's to highlight locally crafted products that show off the culinary talent and ingenuity found in our communities."

The company will consider retail-ready products made in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, or Wisconsin.

"We're always looking to support local businesses and build partnerships that will invest back into the economies of the communities we serve," said Carla Hendon, director of supplier diversity and indirect procurement, in a statement. "This opportunity is particularly special because it gives us the chance to find niche culinary experiences and bring them to our customers on a larger scale."
