Ecommerce Sales On the Rise

Domestic online orders increased nine percent year-over-year this past week, compared to the same timeframe last year, according to digital marketing agency NetElixir, which noticed the spike from November 9 to 16, and considers it to be the beginning of a boom in demand.

Using its analytics technology to track and analyze data from tens of thousands of customer touchpoints, the agency also found that:

• Online orders have increased 9 percent year-over-year across retail categories.

• Food and gourmet has grown by 21 percent year-over-year.

• Website visits have increased by about two percent year-over-year and the average order value is up ten percent.

NetElixir saw a marked lift in online sales trends starting around November 10, after both the midterm election results and announcements of the slowing inflation rate. Both factors could contribute to consumers feeling more confident about this holiday season and showing their festive spirit through online shopping, according to the company.

"This is probably the brightest news I can share with all of you ahead of the holiday season and as we prepare for the all-important holiday weekend. I believe this spike augurs extremely well for the remainder of the season," says Udayan Bose, founder and CEO of NetElixir, in a statement. "The online growth trend we are seeing is a very strong entry to the holiday weekend of Cyber 5 and offers tremendous opportunities for marketers to capture their share of consumer demand."

NetElixir shared the possibility of an online sales spike once the holiday season gets underway, hoping to call this the first "normal" post-pandemic holiday season.
