Publix has announced that its philanthropic arm, Publix Super Markets Charities, will donate $5.65 million to 328 Feeding America food banks and nonprofit organizations that are helping alleviate hunger throughout the Southeastern U.S.

“Wholesome food is fundamental for the health and well-being of our communities, and too many lack access to this basic need,” said Feeding America CEO Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, in a statement. “These gifts from Publix Super Markets Charities further our mission to provide access to nutritious food. We’re grateful to Publix and Publix Super Markets Charities for their continued commitment to helping alleviate hunger.”

Additionally, during this year’s Publix Serves Week, 6,300 associates of the company will partner with 205 local nonprofits to help food insecure populations.

“For many of our neighbors, a daily meal isn’t a choice of what they will eat, but if they will eat. It may be a choice between eating a meal or paying an electric bill. We want to help alleviate that burden by putting nourishing food on the tables of our neighbors in need,” said Publix CEO Todd Jones in a statement. “With the donation from Publix Charities and the volunteer efforts of Publix associates, we’re honored to do good, together for our communities.”
