Hundreds of Brands Become Carbon Neutral Certified

Specialty Food Association

More than 230 brands have completed the Climate Neutral certification process, overseen by independent nonprofit Climate Neutral, to measure, offset, and reduce their 2020 greenhouse gas emissions. This is the largest cohort of certified companies since Climate Neutral’s founding in 2019.

These brands, which represent over $2.3 billion in revenue and span over 12 business categories, have offset over 700,000 metric tons of carbon. In addition, over 125 brands have committed to becoming certified in 2021. There are 27 food and beverages currently certified, including brands like Alter Eco, Moonshot Snacks, Numi Organic Tea, Vahdam Teas, and Zero Carbon Coffee.

Climate Neutral aims to propel corporate action on climate through streamlined carbon measurement, mandatory carbon offsetting, emission reduction planning, and consumer labeling. The Climate Neutral Certified label provides customers with a trusted third-party verification that a company has taken full responsibility for its collective carbon emissions from the previous year.

“Two years into building our community, we’re thrilled to be welcoming a huge new collection of certified brands from a dozen product categories. For years, companies have quietly known that they contribute to climate change, and now our certified brands are investing time to quantify and rectify that impact,” said Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral, in a statement. “We are eager to continue helping these companies and hundreds of others as they invest in eliminating their carbon emissions, and engaging consumers in this critical drive toward a net-zero world.”

All companies that achieve the certification must go on to offset their emissions according to Climate Neutral’s standards, and create reduction action plans to reduce their footprint in the next one to two years.
